P.O.L.A.R. Lab program to launch at Museum in 2014

Posted on: Jan 3rd, 2014

Kick off the new year with tons of fun-filled activities at the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac. The calendar is full of special events, programs, educational exhibits and much more.

January will welcome a brand new weekly program open to school groups and families, called P.O.L.A.R. Lab, sponsored by chemist Charles Thomas Gnewuch. Each class will cover different science and historical topics and feature a broad spectrum of learning opportunities using microscopes and other discovery tools. Participants will gain a new perspective on the mostly unknown environment of the Antarctic and on those who have chosen to study it, including famous historical explorer, Ernest Shackleton and modern day research teams. This program will run from January through April. January topics include Ice Caps, Poles, Land and Water.

Regular favorites return to the Museum in January, including LEGO Night, which occurs on the first Friday of every month from 4:00 – 7:00pm. People ages 2-102 will enjoy the giant supply of LEGOs as creative building is encouraged with a unique theme each month. On the third Friday of every month from 4:00 – 7:00pm, families can join the Museum for Pajama Party Friday and participate in crafts and activities in their pajamas. These special Friday night events are included free with paid admission.

Weekly programs also return, including S.T.E.A.M. Exploration every Wednesday at 10:30am and 1:30pm. In this program, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics will all be explored. Questions will be asked, answers will be found, ideas will be explored, and problems solved. Sunday Stories is also back, where Museum visitors are invited to hear a story enhanced with creative dramatics and group participation. Both of these regular programs are included with paid admission.

The extremely popular Music, Museum and Me classes will be held every Thursday from January 23 to March 13. This class will expose little ones to music, movement and playful group interaction. Children and their caregivers will delight in songs that feature instruments, finger plays and fun learning opportunities. Space is available in the 4:30pm session. All other music classes are full. Registration is required.

There is always something happening at the museum – with a variety of exhibits focused on cultural enrichment, education and creativity. General Admission is $6 per person 1 year and older. Admission is free for children under 1 and museum members. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
