Artist in Residence Program kicks off at The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac to Promote Learning through Creating

Posted on: May 15th, 2019

The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac is excited to feature two local artists, Mel Kolstad and Stephanie LH Harvey, for their summer long Artist in Residence program, made possible the Fond du Lac Area Foundation. This program provides young children chances to create alongside inspiring and socially committed artists. Museum visitors engage directly with artists as they ask questions, observe techniques and discover their own artistic abilities.

This was the first class in a summer long series featuring two area artists for the Fond du Lac Area Foundation Artist in Residence program that will take place each Friday at the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac (75 W. Scott St., Fond du Lac, WI 54935).

Mel Kolstad is an artist, speaker, instructor and arts advocate who specializes in tiny art but also works as a printmaker, collagist, fiber artist, and papermaker. She kicked off our summer Artist in Residence program May 10th with fingerpainted monoprints after displaying her own art at THELMA Sadoff Center for the Arts. Kolstad will continue to teach through the middle of June and will be a featured artist in Fond du Lac’s “Art All Around” weekend festivities. Stephanie LH Harvey, local artist who focuses primarily on printmaking and photography with a passion for teaching others, will run the remainder of the classes through the end of August. The Artist in Residence classes take place at the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac every Friday through August 23rd from 10am -12pm. There is no reservation necessary to participate in these classes and thanks to the Fond du Lac Area Foundation, these classes are free with admission or membership! Over the next few weeks stop by to make these projects: May 24: Recycled Papermaking, May 31: Circles and Squares collage, June 7: Presto Foam Printmaking, June 14: Rubber Stamping fun, and June 21: Spray bottle art. Classes will continue through August 23rd, schedule of projects to be announced.
